Spring is a great time to do an annual social media clean up. When people google your name, your social media is one of the first things that pops up. So let’s make sure it looks professional and reflects the great actor you are this year! Here are 8 steps to take to do a little social media spring cleaning:

#1 REVISIT YOUR BIOS

Bios should reflect YOU today, not yeeeears ago when you set up your accounts. If you’re using hashtags or usernames for your reps or shows you’ve been on, check that they’re working and up-to-date. Need help with that bio? This video will show you how to write one…

#2 UPDATE YOUR PROFILE PHOTOS

Profile photos (most likely your latest headshot) should be current and consistent across platforms. It takes between 7 and 12 times before someone recognizes you online. So make it easy for people to know it’s you by using the same photo everywhere.

#3 UPDATE YOUR HEADER/COVER PHOTOS

If there’s a big ‘billboard’ at the top of your profile keep it current. Your header photo or YouTube Channel Art can be a great place to update us about your latest project…

#4 DOUBLE CHECK PROFILE LINKS

The link in your bio (to your website, casting sites, IMDb, youtube channel, etc.) is how people learn more about you. Double check that your link is working!

#5 DO AN AUDIT OF YOUR RECENT POSTS

Your posts should look and sound like you. If not, have a coffee date with yourself and put some ‘ME’ in your social MEdia. Posts should also represent your BEST self. Would it be ok if your agent, manager or a casting director saw them? If not, do a little clean-up.

Not sure if you should post something? This video clear will clear it up for you

#6 UNTAG YOURSELF

Find all of the photos on Facebook and Instagram that you’re tagged in. Do a quick scan and untag yourself from anything that isn’t you or doesn’t show you as your best self!

#7 RE-THINK YOUR PLATFORMS

It’s better to totally rock 1 platform than get burned out on 4. Are the platforms you’re using the right ones for YOUR career right now?

These 3 questions will help you decide:

-Will this platform help me reach my career goals?

-Do the industry pros I know and want to know spend time here?

-Is this a platform I enjoy?

BONUS #WORKINGACTOR QUESTION: If you’re on/in a show: Do my fans spend time here?

#8 SEE WHAT’S WORKING

Before you hit tweet or post again…

Check your analytics to see what your followers and fans respond to.

(You better believe I’ve done more posts like this one after checking my analytics)

Then do more of that! Don’t just focus on LIKES- also pay close attention to shares, saves and comments (this means people REALLY loved it)!

Here’s where to find your ANALYTICS on Instagram, a Facebook Page and Twitter…

(You’ll need a CREATOR or BUSINESS account to access Insights on Instagram! Last week’s video shows you how and why to switch).
